From BGG:

Spoiled Victory map“A Spoiled Victory: Dunkirk 1940 is a solitaire game on the Allied rescue operation from May 27 to June 4th of 1940. Approximately 400,000 men from the Allied forces of Belgium, France, and England were surrounded in the area of Dunkirk by German forces. England launched Operation Dynamo with the hopes of rescuing 30,000. Instead they rescued 330,000. In this game, the player controls the Allied forces and must try to recreate the historical result.

The game uses Event cards to define the conditions for each turn. These cards dictate where the Luftwaffe will strike, how many units can evacuate, the German army movement, and the number of player actions.

The game uses a point-to-point map. The Allies can move between any two connected points but the Germans can only move on set tracks. As the player moves the Allied forces to the beach, they are converted to evacuee units, which can then sail to England. But even then they can be subject to artillery or Luftwaffe strikes until they arrive safely in England.

The game is scored by calculating the total number of evacuees rescued and earning victory points as a result. The historical result or better wins the game.”

    Hello.
Thank you very much for offering this game as free PnP.
Just note that the third part of the map has no link to a bigger picture (in case it is not intentional).

    Regards

Sorry for the problems with the download. I have my IT guy working on it now and things should be fixed in a few days. The problem developed when I published the game and didn’t notice the map wasn’t originally with the rest of the files. When I tried to post the map WordPress refused to accept something that large, so my choices were to take down an already published article, leave it without a map for now or do the best I could at that instant. Well, at least everyone got a general idea of what the map looks like. But I’ll get a better one as soon as possible. It all boils down to my limited computer skills showing through. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Just to re-iterate the previous poster’s main comment:

The top two lo-res map segments click through to hi(her)-res versions that will allow the game to be played. The bottom map does not have a link.

To be clear: we need the access to the hi-res version of the bottom third segment to be able to play the game.

    Many Thanks!

Try the new set up. It should work fine now. If it doesn’t drop me a note. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I’m not seeing multiple map segments – am I missing something obvious?

    • Fred Manzo January 30, 2015 at 11:55 pm -

That was the first published version back when Wordpres won’t allow me to load a file that big. I divided the map into three segments on Paint and then loaded each separately. However, my web designer suggested I try Gimp and that seems to have solved the problem. There is now one large clean map, which expands if you click on it.

I think you should maybe consider uploading the files to BoardGameGeek. There you’ll not have any problems with huge files. I’d love to make myself a copy.

    Thanks.

P.S. I’m a Photoshop ninja. If you need any help converting said files to e.g. a .pdf file I would happily help you out. Perhaps you wouldn’t see any problem with that format.

Thanks for the offer. If I run into anything similar I’ll drop you a note. But this time my IT guy solved the problem by having me use GIMP. It was more my limited computer skills than a real limit anyway.

I’d be glad to add a few more teasers at BGG but the reason I post new, free PNP games when I can get them is to expand the viewer base for The Boardgaming Way. BGG doesn’t need my help, I need its.

It was pointed out that in the first version there were doubles of the “Admiral Wake-Walker” and “Tightening the Noose” cards, in place of the “Goering Promises a Victory” and “Goering Rants and Raves” cards. That oversight has been fixed.

If there are any other problems with this download please drop me a note. I’ll do the best I can to fix them asap. But as of now everything is fine.

Am I missing something, where was the new map updated posted?

    • Fred Manzo February 22, 2015 at 6:57 pm -

The first version of the map on this site was divided into three separate parts due to a size problem with WordPress. I then used Gimp as a work around and was able to load the map as one continuous presentation. It’s the one here now. No splicing required.
