This is beyond doubt my favorite old-time wacky ad. Apparently, nothing says “Home Defense” better than a Tommy gun. This ad was part of Auto-Ordnance’s initial marketing campaign right after World War I. As I understand it they had ramped up production for their new “trench broom,” but the war ended before they could get them into service. So the “Home Defense” market seemed like a good Plan “B”.
