Flying Pig Games’ “Crowbar! The Rangers at Pointe du Hoc” to appear on Kickstarter

By Fred Manzo

This is a first-pass rendition of one of the Ranger counters from Flying Pigs’ latest game “Crowbar! The Rangers at Pointe du Hoc.” Hermann Luttmann will be its designer, I’ll be its developer and Tim Allen will be its artist. I believe the counters will be 1-inch squares. The map will remind people of “In Magnificant Style” as it will consist of 12 columns of squares. The land portion will be 11 squares deep, while the sea portion of the map will be 12 squares across and 4 squares deep.

“James Earl Rudder (May 6, 1910 – March 23, 1970) was the United States Army major general who as a lieutenant colonel was the commander of the historic Pointe du Hoc battle which was part of the Invasion of Normandy.” – Wiki

According to Herm, this game is based “on ‘In Magnificent Style,’ so each counter is abstracted a bit as to actual size. Each of the three companies – Dog, Easy and Fox – has four counters/columns. There were 225 men used in the historical assault, so that comes out roughly to 20 men per counter. The strength of “8” is the maximum Strength Factor of a Ranger counter and that number is simply the number that playtested best as the starting game strength for each counter. The actual number of figures is irrelevant but the number depicted will decrease proportionally as the unit’s factor decreases.

The game is entitled “Crowbar! The Rangers at Pointe du Hoc” and will hit Kickstarter through Flying Pig Games in the near future.”
